Moscow - the world's priciest city?
The survey by Mercer Human Resource Consulting ranked 144 cities around the world, measuring the comparative cost of more than 200 items such as housing, transportation and food. The survey is aimed at helping multinational employers determine compensation for their expatriate workers.
Moscow replaces Tokyo as the world's most expensive city and Asuncion, Paraguay remains the least expensive city globally.
Seoul is ranked the most expensive city in Asia followed by Tokyo and Hong Kong while London is the most expensive city in Europe after Moscow.
New York remains the most expensive city in North America along with Los Angeles and San Francisco. In South America the strong growth in the Brazilian Real against the US Dollar pushes Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro well up in the rankings as a result of good economic growth and foreign investment.
